This week we have an Atom Moore macro of the Breitling Vintage SuperOcean. Launched n 1959, just a few years after the Fifty Fathoms, Brietling met a new consumer demand for diving watches. Previously, the company offered navigational equipment for pilots, supplying twenty-five major airlines and aircraft companies, so the SuperOcean seemed to be a divergent product. But it became a pioneering product line, introducing one of the first known reverse panda dial chronographs.

The Brietling Vintage SuperOcean 1004 has a stainless steel 38.5 diameter three-body case, with an acrylic crystal, as well as integral mesh bracelet and tang clasp. The bezel is black with baton hour markers and luminous triangle at the 12 o’clock position. The hands are steel broad arrow, joined by a center sweep second hand. Bold and clean, this watch features a permiter white stick baton minutes and seconds scale, radium inserts, radium dart hours, and radium dots beneath faceted steel darts at each quarter hour. The 1004 has a 21k automatic self-winding Transocean caliber B 125 with a 21k gold rotor.

This vintage model is truly a work of history and something that any serious collector would be proud to hunt down.
