This week we have an Atom Moore macro of the Akrivia Rexhep Rexhepi Chronometre Contemporain. Classic tones and aesthetics are celebrated in the new Rexhep Rexhepi collection, launched by Akrivia in 2018. The Chronomètre Contemporain completes the collection with a touch of contemporary fashion. The new watch features a see-through case back with sapphire, and a grand flue enamel dial available in black or white with Art Deco inspired lines of gold or blue that frame and segment Roman numerals. The piece simultaneously pays tribute to the 1940s officer’s watch with a large diameter sub-seconds counter. Even the winding of the watch is part of its nostalgic joy, thanks to a click ratchet that calls to mind old style pocket watches.

By interweaving symmetrical and asymmetrical forms, along with visible concave and convex details in the case sides and lugs, this watch’s novel case creates fascinating visual tension. The entire movement’s parts are hand-finished according to the high traditions of Geneva watchmaking, including anglage black polish, perlage, hand graining, and hand engraving with rhodium treatment. At a client’s request (and an additional cost), this watch can be Chronometer certified by the Besancon Observatory after a 16 consecutive day thorough testing.

All in all, this watch is an excellent display of aesthetic harmony and painstaking craftsmanship.
